Care & Maintenance

Solid wood furniture is timeless and built to last for generations. Proper care ensures your pieces retain their natural beauty, strength, and finish for years to come. Please follow the care guidelines below to maintain and protect your Global Living furniture and décor.

1. Daily Use & Handling

  • Use protective coverings such as tablecloths, placemats, or runners on tables that are used regularly.
  • Dust surfaces frequently using a clean, soft, dry microfiber cloth.
  • Avoid scrubbing or applying pressure with rough or abrasive materials, as this may cause surface scratches.

2. Cleaning & Maintenance

  • Clean wood surfaces gently with a lightly dampened cloth; immediately wipe dry.
  • Avoid harsh rubbing or excessive moisture, as this may damage the wood’s finish.
  • Never use chemical-based cleaners, thinner, bleach, or abrasive substances.
  • For deeper cleaning, use a wood-friendly polish or oil recommended for natural wood.

3. Heat & Light Protection

  • Keep your furniture away from direct sunlight, as prolonged exposure may cause fading or discoloration.
  • Avoid placing furniture near heat sources such as heaters, fireplaces, or radiators.
  • Refrain from placing hot objects directly on wood surfaces. Always use coasters, trivets, or mats.

4. Humidity & Moisture Control

  • Solid wood reacts to humidity fluctuations. Avoid exposure to extremely dry or extremely damp environments.
  • If your region experiences seasonal humidity variations, a humidifier or dehumidifier may be used to maintain stable conditions.
  • Wipe spills immediately using a soft absorbent cloth to prevent stains, swelling, or warping.

5. Protection from Liquids & Stains

  • Always use coasters, mats, and table runners when placing beverages, hot dishes, or decorative items.
  • Avoid placing wet or damp objects directly on the surface.
  • For accidental spills, blot gently rather than wiping aggressively.

6. Chemical Exposure

  • Avoid any direct contact of chemicals, oils, solvents, nail polish removers, perfumes, disinfectants, or cleaning sprays with the wood surface.
  • Do not use polyurethane or synthetic coating over Global Living’s natural finishes unless done professionally.

7. Surface Scratches & Burn Marks

  • Minor scratches and surface marks can be treated with fine-grit sandpaper.
  • Sand gently along the wood grain, not against it.
  • After sanding, apply a suitable mineral oil or wood conditioner to restore the finish.

8. Polishing & Conditioning

  • Periodically condition your solid wood furniture using a high-quality wood oil or conditioner to preserve moisture balance and finish.
  • Avoid silicone-based polishes as they may damage natural coatings over time.

9. General Environmental Care

  • Lift furniture when moving—do not drag across floors.
  • Avoid stacking heavy objects for prolonged periods.
  • Maintain balanced indoor conditions to prevent wood contraction and expansion.
